Voting for the candidates
Voting will be done via Google Forms. The link to the ballot will be sent out in a special email alert to current members on October 1st. Members have 2 weeks to vote. Voting will be available up until 7pm, October 15th and results announced at the Annual Meeting.
The 9 elected Officers will select 2 additional members to serve on the Board as Directors at Large. NOTE: If interested in serving as an Director at Large, please submit your name for consideration to BoD@BikeIrvine.org BEFORE the Annual Meeting.

Nominee for President: Bev Plass*
Candidate’s Statement: I’ve been riding with the club for 40 years! I’ve served as president in 1987-88 and 2025-26. I like organizing things and would be happy to continue giving back to this club.
Nominee for Vice President: Frank Conner*
Candidate’s Statement: I am currently the Vice President and have served in that position for a year and a half. I have enjoyed working getting speakers for meetings and other duties. While a fairly new member of BCI I have been very active in rides and have made many friends. I am a resident of Woodbridge and have access to those facilities. Being retired I have time to devote to the Club needs.
Nominee for Ride Coordinator: Bill Sellin*
Candidate’s Statement: I believe I am qualified given my knowledge of the club’s extensive Ride Bank, and use of RideWithGPS to generate routes, format them into BCI style cue sheets and update and improve them as ongoing maintenance, as well as posting the rides as events to the Club’s web site. As a founding member I have been involved in the club since its inception and am proud to serve this important if not primary club function. I would welcome assistance and offer training to members who want to come up with routes, ideally to assist me and at some time take over / continue our legacy of safe and interesting routes.
Nominee for Membership Director: Shawn Andrews*
Candidate’s Statement: While I only joined the club in 2023, I’ve been very active, have made many friends, and have found my tribe. In general, I'm friendly and outgoing, love meeting new people, am good with numbers and computers, and love everything that BCI does and stands for. I'm happy to continue to contribute to the club as the Membership Director.
Nominee for Treasurer: Ed Rubinstein*
Candidate’s Statement: I am an inactive attorney who in my last few years of practice represented cyclists including some BCI members. I have been an avid cyclist for 55 years, and a member of BCI for over 40 years, with member number 206. I served as BCI’s Treasurer since January 2023, and I am seeking to continue. As your Treasurer, I initiated investing BCI’s savings into secure income generating CD’s that bring us about $700 per year, the equivalent of the dues from 28 members. Financially BCI is in great shape with enough savings that the Board can decide to actively subsidize the cost of member benefits such as jersey sales, the annual picnic and Cycling Savvy classes.
Nominee for Statistician:
Candidate’s Statement: Rick originally joined BCI around 2003 while training for sprint triathlons and was a member for five years, took time off to raise kids, and rejoined two years ago. Professionally, I have over 20 years of experience in IT leadership, including leading teams responsible for data reporting and analytics. I'd be happy to put that experience to work for BCI. He welcomes the opportunity to work with the current statistician to ensure a smooth transition, understand the existing processes, and learn what the board hopes to accomplish going forward.
Nominee for Communications Director: Kim Gerrard*
Candidate’s Statement: In October 2023 I was elected BCI Communications Coordinator and I wouldn’t mind holding the position again for another year. I’ve enjoyed working with the other board members and disseminating information to our nearly-300 members via regular email News Alerts. Before I retired I worked at UCI in a web development team which prepared me for the web work this position requires.
Nominee for Secretary: John Altenberg*
Candidate’s Statement: I am currently serving as BCI Secretary. I joined BCI in 2023 as a means to connect with fellow cyclists in Orange County. Focus during last year has been to strengthen ridership and formalize a rotation of Thursday rides.

Relevant ByLaws: ARTICLE VIII: ELECTION OF OFFICERS
SECTION 1: Nominations
a. The President shall appoint a Nominating Committee at least sixty (60) days prior to the annual meeting. The committee shall consist of no less than three (3) Active Members, at least one of whom shall be an officer. The Nominating Committee shall submit the slate of nominees of Active Members to be posted or announced by whatever communication methods the club uses.
b. Nomination from the membership shall be accepted until the first day of the month prior to the month of the annual meeting.
c. Candidates are encouraged to present their qualifications in a statement published with their names posted or announced by whatever communication methods the club uses, by the first day of the month prior to the month of the annual meeting.
d. Nominees must have attained legal majority and be an Active Member. Nominees are eligible to hold office regardless of their tenure as an Active Member.
SECTION 2: Ballots
a. Ballots: each voting member is entitled to one vote, online within the publicized voting period prior to the annual meeting, or by mail or in person at the annual meeting. A copy of the ballot will be posted or announced by whatever communication methods the club uses, by the last day of the month prior to the month of the annual meeting.
b. Absentee Ballots: if paper ballots are used, all absentee ballots must be received prior to the annual meeting.
c. The results will be tabulated by the Nominating Committee and announced by the end of the annual meeting. The newly elected officers will then be duly installed.
SECTION 3: Term of Office
The term of office shall be from the election at the annual meeting until the following year’s election.
SECTION 4: Succession of Officers
In the event of an officer's death, resignation, disability, or disqualification, other than the President's, the Board of Directors shall appoint a successor. The President shall be automatically succeeded by the Vice-President.
