General Meeting

Wednesday September 2nd
7:00 P.M. Irvine Ranch Water District Community Room
Wow, don't miss out on this one!! Author Roy Wallack who has written eight books on cycling and running will be our guest speaker. His most recent book is "Bike for Life" which was released this last March.
Roy M. Wallack once biked from the sea to the summit of a 13,796-ft. Hawaiian volcano in a day, debated persistence hunting with a barefoot Kalahari tribesman in a loincloth, and talked his way out of the gulag when he got caught illegally in the USSR. Now, he's trying to figure out how to run and ride until he's at least 100 years old.

Welcome to the BCI's Website. The Bicycle Club of Irvine is a recreational and social cycling club for men and women of all ages and skill levels. We have been an active club for over thirty years, and our members are all ages, shapes and sizes. Our main goals are to have fun and make new friends along the way. You do not have to become a member before riding with us. Just come and see if the club is a good fit for you, and you can then become a member if you feel a connection. We are a very social club and think you will enjoy the friendliness and opportunity to spend time with new-made friends. If you do choose to ride with us we do recommend that you follow a few common sense guidelines
  • Wear you helmet.
  • Insure your bicycle is road worthy.
  • Leave the ear buds at home.
  • Obey ALL traffic laws.
  • Have fun.
We look forward to seeing you at Deerfield Park on Irvine Center Rd between Yale and Culver. Check out our ride schedule and please join us.

Sun Sep 06, 2015 8:30 AM - Remote Ride with LA Wheelmen

(Long 40 - 3000 feet, Medium 26 -2400 feet, Short 19 - 900 feet) Today we hope to be hosting the Bicycle Club of Irvine. We want to show them some unique parts of Los Angeles they don't see riding in Orange County most of the time. What better place to go than some caves found right in the heart of LA - Bronson Caves. All routes go to the caves. The short goes directly there and back, passing through Hollywood (something else BCI riders probably don't often see.) The Med. gets to the caves, but first takes a trip around Lake Hollywood and up to the overlook - also something BCI riders might not be familiar with. This includes a couple of short but rather steep climbs. It then heads to Griffith Park for lunch before returning. The long is the same as the medium, but adds a climb up to Mulholland before heading to Lake Hollywood and after viewing the caves, it climbs up to the Observatory in Griffith Park for lunch. This adds two more classic LA locales for our guests to experience. But the caves are still the highlight of the day. Even if you have never been there I just about guarantee you have seen them. They are a very popular film location and have appeared in many TV shows and commercials. So be sure to join us. How often can you combine spelunking and cycling - "Cyclolunking."
Location: START: THE CORNER@, Olympic Blvd, 1 block west of La Cienega in Beverly Hills. From the Santa Monica Frwy (10), off & north La Cienega 12 miles, L - Olympic 1 block to R - Le Doux.

Sun Sep 27, 2015 7 days - Biking Tour of Spokane Washington

What makes Spokane, WA the ideal location for our 2015 cycling, hiking and fun adventure?

Here's what Visit Spokane has to say, "A vibrant city, a roaring river, a gateway to the American west. Since its first days as a rail hub, Spokane has stood as a destination city immersed in natural beauty. Book a whitewater adventure, bike the beautiful Centennial Trail or hike through countless nature preserves. But it's not just about the outdoors! Taste Washington's renowned grapes and hops at any number of local wineries and craft breweries."

As a fellow cyclist, here's what I think will impress you... Spokane's natural beauty and the broad valley where it resides. The many dedicated bicycle and hiking trails adjacent to the hotel. A 2-state bicycle tour which includes beautiful Coeur d'Alene, Idaho as one of our many destinations. Enough after-ride activities to make you do a happy dance. Plus, you can buy this terrific jersey to remember the trip by.

Follow the link below for more information.

We'd love to have you and your friends join us on this outstanding 7 day bicycling adventure funding the good works being done by Big Brothers Big Sisters OC.
