Holiday Party

Don't forget our holiday party at Working Wardrobes at 6:00 PM on November 22. Scroll down for more details and a link to sign up. We will have a short review of the proposed changes to the BCI by-laws. This is also a good time to make final recommendations for the 2015 BCI Board of Directors slate.

Letter from a Neighbor

Not sure how to get this information directly to your club members, and I am hoping you will take these comments as objectively as they are intended.

I was having a leisurely morning today (Saturday, 11/15) when a VERY large group of your riders completely descended on the Starbucks at Trabuco and El Toro Road. This is a public place, and they have every right to be there, but they completely disregarded traffic rules, other cars and even those walking across the parking lot.

When your riders decided Starbucks was their stopping place, we got up to leave.

While trying to back out of my parking space, riders went behind my vehicle, in front of my vehicle and general ignored the fact I was driving an automobile. I also was placed in an extremely dangerous situation when multiple riders exited the driveway to my right with absolutely NO regard for traffic (automobiles) stop signs, or even common courtesy. This is just not OK.

Perhaps you can find a way to transmit this information to the group, or leaders? If cyclists want courtesy and consideration, they should exhibit the same. If I drove my car like that I would be dead!

[note from webmaster - I received this letter from a neighbor on Saturday evening and thought I should share it with the members. Name withheld. If you wish to respond, send me an email and I will forward it to the sender.]

Get Involved with our Club and Join the Board of Directors

Did you know that each year BCI solicits new volunteers to serve as officers/directors on the governing board? Fresh officers each year bring new dynamics to the club. Additionally, two members at large are selected by the elected officers and other committees are needed for special events and tasks. If you are willing to volunteer for a position, we would love to nominate you. Contact the Board of Directors at bod@bikeirvine.org and we'll put your name on the ballot to be circulated to the membership in December. The election is held at BCI's annual meeting in January and the term is for one year. For a full description of the duties of our officers, please see the club bylaws at http://bikeirvine.org/assets/forms/bcibylaws.pdf

Welcome

Welcome to BCI's Website. The Bicycle Club of Irvine is a recreational and social cycling club for men and women of all ages and skill levels. Please come and check out our rides and events, read about our history, becoming a member, and find out what's new at BCI.
You do not have to become a member before riding with us. Just come and see if the club is a good fit for you, and you can then become a member if you feel a connection. We are a very social club and think you will enjoy the friendliness and opportunity to spend time with new-made friends. We ask you to wear a helmet and when you arrive at the park, sign in on the guest sign-in sheet. Route information is available to the left side of this page.

Sat Nov 22, 2014 6:00 PM - Holiday Party Pot Luck Dinner

We will be utilizing the Community Room at Working Wardrobes for the BCI Holiday Party this year. Working Wardrobes is a nonprofit organization that assists unemployed and underemployed clients with the transition back into the workforce providing career development and wardrobe services. They serve over 500 veterans transitioning from Iraq and Afghanistan each year. Mary Ann Profeta, the wife of our Ride Coordinator, is an employee at Working Wardrobes, and has graciously offered to make the space available to BCI.

Members, please bring:
  • A hearty appetizer to share. Please, NO CHIPS/DIPS
  • Serving utensils as needed for your appetizer
  • Your favorite beverage (coffee will be provided)
  • At least one clothing item to donate. The item should be something in good condition for a man or woman that ideally can be used in a business interview/working situation, but they will accept all clothing donations.
Additional donations are also welcome if you'd like to clean out your closet. We ask that all clothing donations be clean, in good condition, and placed on hangers. Working Wardrobes will accept both new and gently used shoes, belts, scarves, jewelry, purses, and all clothing, including casual, business, and dressy/formal.

Also, if you have a bicycle in working order that is taking up space in your garage, Working Wardrobes will take it! Working Wardrobes has partnered with BCI sponsor shop, Trail's End Cycling Center, to recondition used bikes and provide them to veterans in need of transportation. Donation receipts are available.

Please sign up online so everyone can see who is bringing what and what people need to fill in with.

Thanks again for giving Working Wardrobes this opportunity to host. We are looking forward to it!
