BCI Members Conquer Glendora Mountain Road

It was touch and go for the week leading up to our July 3rd remote ride up GMR to Mt. Baldy Village due to the San Gabriel Complex brushfires that were burning just west of GMR.  Fortunately the fires were contained and the roads were reopened just a few days before our ride.

Were's my caffeine?  Some riders were wishing we started at a Starbucks.

Some 19 more-or-less awake BCI riders rolled out from the intersection of Boulder Springs and Glendora Mountain Roads at 7:30 am, hoping to get to the village and back before the July heat kicked in.  It turned out to be an ideal summer day weather-wise, it never got too hot, and by the time we turned around to head back down there was a nice breeze to keep us cool.

We had hoped the road would be closed to motor vehicles, as the LA County Department of Public Works has historically closed them over the July 4 holiday for fire prevention, but it was not to be.  However traffic on the mountain was very light so it was still a great ride.

Congratulations to our first time GMR riders Karen Kelly, Ann Reichling and Deby Six! (If you were a first time rider email me at jim@bikeirvine.org and I will add you to the list here).
