San Juan Creek Railroad Bridge Replacement Project

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in coordination with Metrolink, is replacing the railroad bridge over San Juan Creek in the City of San Juan Capistrano to enhance safety and reduce maintenance needs. Once the new bridge is completed and train service is switched over, the existing bridge will be demolished. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027.

The San Juan Creek Trail bike path will be closed occasionally, and at some points for weeks at a time. During closures, crews will be continuing construction of the new railroad bridge, and once opened, the demolition and replacement of the old bridge. (OCBC and residents fought to save the old bridge as a bikeway but lost)

When closures are in place, trail users (cyclists) will be detoured to Camino Capistrano, Del Obispo Street and the Trabuco Creek bikepath. Bicyclists are encouraged to walk their bikes on Del Obispo sidewalks. Detour signs will be installed prior to the closure.
