Guest Speaker / Program: the Irvine Police Dept is sending us a knowledgeable traffic officer, one of the two who teach the cycling road safety courses! The officer will cover laws governing cyclists as well as cycling issues that IPD sees in Irvine. They will do a "Q & A".

We have some sizing samples to bring & try out the NEW JL Velo jersey option that promises to be a more comfortable ‘Club’ fit.

Guest Speaker / Program:
In 2018, several of our members have needed medical/paramedic aid during our rides. One rider suffered a broken hip after skidding. One rider passed out at the coffee stop and another nearly did after a ride from dehydration . Another experienced a heart-attack on a ride. One plowed into yet another and they both needed medical aid. And one was hit by a car.   In several cases, fellow cyclists did not know how to properly respond to these emergencies. Do you?

In a panicked moment, can you accurately recall the proper breath-to-compression ratio for CPR? Basic first aid for bleeding ? Detecting signs and symptoms BEFORE they become a full-blown medical emergency? Knowing a few basics could save the life of your fellow club member OR your own life! Our club makes every effort to promote safety, but accidents and medical emergencies do happen. Let's be prepared. Come hear the Irvine Fire Department paramedics inform and educate us on basic aid for cyclists.

Please spread the word to your ALL your cycling friends about this important meeting topic. Spouses are encouraged to attend! A little knowledge could help save a life.

See you (and your riding friends) this Thursday . Refreshments & snacks at 6:30.
No spandex (or lycra) required.

Guest Speaker / Program:
Do you suffer from cycling-related sore necks or aching joints? Do you have questions about shoes? Have you gained or lost weight in recent years? As our bodies change , our riding is affected. Please bring your questions and concerns on Thursday night to learn from an expert how proper posture and position on your bike can reduce injuries and increase performance and enjoyment.

Barrett Brauer,  a certified bike fitter , uses all the latest computer & video technology to troubleshoot and determine a proper fit in his lab. He is also a USA Certified Level II Coach , competitive road cyclist and triathlete. Barrett, whom you may already know through ARB Cyclery, is also a friend to many of us in BCI.

"No pain, no gain" is a popular cycling phrase, but proper bike fit can really avoid that!  We hope you will come join us on Thursday , June 14th at 6:45. Bring a friend!

2017 Jersey1.jpg

Guest Speaker / Program: JERSEYS!

Our Jersey Design Committee will present the new BCI Kit and we will have size fittings on hand for our new kit from JLVelo. https://www.facebook.com/JLVelo

The on-line 'store' will open for just 10 days or so to get your orders in, and getting the right size may matter - so come ready to try on the sizing samples and compare the two quality levels available in Jerseys, Shorts and Bibs!  If you can not attend the meeting but want to try on sizes & check out the quality, you can stop by their office any day.

While waiting to fit, BCI members are invited to bring in 1 or 2 jersey & tell the group about that particular event or ride and why it holds special memories for you ( sort of an open mic 'TED talk'! )

2017 Bib.jpg

We also have invited Jim Friebert to set up his collection of collectable & recycled jerseys - he may want to purchase or swap an old one from your closet - see https://www.facebook.com/myemailsnotat/

or all gently worn & clean jerseys will be collected for a donation to the Bicycle Tree in Santa Ana... https://www.facebook.com/thebicycletree/
