SoCal Tour de Cure Diabetes Ride
by Doug Phillips

June 1, 2003 - Many BCI members stepped up during the month of May and raised diabetes awareness while contributing more than $1200 to this year’s Tour de Cure held Saturday May 17. Inspired by Trudy Ibbetson’s grand successes at fund raising for this important cause (annually more than $3000), Doug Phillips created a Team BCI and was joined by members Pam Matsufuji, Richard Mell and Wayne Kresher on the Metric Century option.

The ride started at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, made its way to downtown Huntington Beach, included the Balboa Peninsula and a free ferry ride before climbing Newport Coast. One of many food and rest stops was in back bay and prepared riders for the trip through upper back bay and a tailwind assisted northward return up PCH to Long Beach.

Back at El Dorado Park there was a festival of activities going on including a lunch menu of Tri Tip sandwiches or Chicken Soft Tacos.

Anyone wishing to contribute (tax deductible) in the name of the BCI Team can still do so until the end of May be sending a check, payable to American Diabetes Association (ADA) to Doug Phillips – 12585 Ivy Glen Lane, Garden Grove 92841.

The SoCal Tour de Cure, a great day, a great event and a very special showing of support from many of our BCI friends. Thank you all for being there!
