l1At least 40 of us got lost in the Skyline area today on the blue ride. I always get lost on the Skyline ride because the streets are very winding and confusing. Please re-do the route slips to add landmarks or something so we know when to turn. Thank you.The road signs are not in the best locations. I will review the route and see if we can provide better landmarks. We will also verify the mileage to each turn.

m1It seemed that at least half of the people who showed up at this ride rode somewhere else. The city streets of Anaheim are not the ideal destination to send a group of riders.Agreed - this route comes up only once every 4 months. We get complaints about going to the same place all of the time also.

Sat Jun 01, 2013 8:00 AM - Century Ride

Second of 9 Century Training Rides. This is not just about miles on the saddle, but a complete program that will address hydration, nutrition, electrolytes, and supplements, bike preparation, heart rate monitors, clothing, and bike fit. If you are planning to do your first century or want to go even longer, you need this program! This is for both men and women. All of the rides will be "No Drop." We will begin with a 15-20 minute pre-ride information session at Deerfield Park. Most rides will start at 8:AM; longer rides will start earlier. The first ride will be about 40 miles and get progressively longer during the nine weeks. The last ride will be about 80 miles. If you are training for a metric century (62 miles), you can choose to stop after week six. Interested? Sign up by email to Randy Profeta, BCI Ride Coordinator: ridecoord@bikeirvine.org

s1We need to try and keep large groups of BCI riders off of Irvine Blvd. behind the Great Park. Construction will continue for a least several more months on both sides of the road. The Aliso Creek Bike Trail between Muirlands and Paseo de Valenca is not good for a group of riders for it has a good number of quick turns, several blind corners and some quick short changes in elevation. Wayne Wayne: We make all efforts to avoid major road construction. If we see a sheet that includes road construction, we usually announce a work-around alternative route before the ride starts.

NALong ride, Red Hill is very rough road and too many stop signs. We had a detour today around construction. Turning into the rest stop maybe should come in from a different direction, it comes up pretty fast and all of us had to do a u turn at the signal.Yeah - maybe they'll fix the road after they're through digging up Dyer.

Sat Jun 22, 2013 All Day - Summer Solstice Remote Ride

We are doing it again - for the 23rd year - an overnight tour from Irvine to Carlsbad (and beyond)!

Please check your calendar for June 22nd/23rd - the first weekend of this summer and if interested -please see all the details at www.sellin.com/solstice/XXIII

Dev and I already drove the route from Carlsbad up to Vista and it will be a nice new option inland from the coast.
Sunday will have a great breakfast option and the San Luis Rey River Trail all the way down to Oceanside harbor for more breakfast options before heading up the coast into Pendleton - check out the posted routes!

Metrolink's $10 weekend pass makes it easy to make various short cuts if the full metric century is daunting. Last year we skipped San Clemente to Oceanside on the train and got to Carlsbad strangely fresh and able to climb to San Marcos with no trouble!

I hope you will be able to join us.

m1I think at a minimum it should be rolly + 1 steep hill, or just call it hilly since the grade must be at least 9-10%. Also 2 errors on the route slip. Change Equestrian to Apsley, and L on Lemon Heights should be L on E. Lemon Heights. Thanks.Database Updated

s1Randy, I think that the yellow ride on March 3 was to hilly and difficult for many of the traditional yellow riders. I heard many complaints and a number of riders took alternate routes. I found it the be the most challenging yellow or even blue ride that I have experienced since I joined the club 4 years ago. Thanks for considering a modification of this ride in the future. Rich McCarthyThanks for your comments. SAT20 M2 shows as VERY HILLY and has several long climbs. Ridge Park hits 12% in spots. This ride gets praise and complaints. As a work-around, we will look at providing another Yellow (medium) route when this ride is offered.
