m2Riding downhill on Newport Coast towards Bonita Canyon (at mile 13.8) is an experience in terror and there's no good reason to route our riders on this stretch. The bike lane vanishes exactly at the point where double right turn lanes steer cars to the freeway onramps. Cars are coming in surges at over 65 mph downhill. This stretch appears on several sheets. There are many safe solutions to navigate this section of roadway on a bicycle including stopping in the bike land ahead of the freeway entrance and waiting for a gap in down-bound traffic before proceeding. That said, I will look at options.

s1They're not kidding when route slip says "At Stop Sign by Guard House onto Sidewalk. SLOW! Watch for foot traffic!" This is a blind curve with bushes, foot traffic, and bikes coming towards you.Yes, we were not kidding. Your ride coordinator always walks this section.

l1My altimiter read 15-16% grade on both end of Red Hill and Loma St. -- so be ready for that!! Ann GThe north end of Red Hill is every bit of 12%, but the steep climb is only about 150 feet long! You have been warned! Loma Street E is also a bit of a wall.
