In the encyclopedia of perfect weather weekends, this one deserves a mention. Friday night was warm and Saturday the sun came out early and lasted all day at a comfy 73%.
Our little group assembled by 10:00 on Saturday and we were off from the campground to Solvang for a good cup of coffee. From there we left the highway and took to the back roads. We rode to the end of Happy Canyon and stopped to have a road side picnic lunch. It was a great ride through beautiful farm land and vineyards. Over almost 40 miles, we say 1754 feet of climbing with the steepest grade of 9%. This ride would be appropriate for anyone that can do a hilly yellow ride.
Everyone who came said they would come again. I plan to look at some other areas for future campout/rides like El Capitan and ride into Santo Barbara or Santa Maria and ride through the farm lands and wine country up there, San Diego or Palm Springs. Any suggestions? I'll probably look at January or February for the next trip.
Thanks to all who came for making it a nice weekend.
