IRVINE – A man died Monday after falling off his bicycle Saturday morning.
Roilan Marquez, 43, of Irvine was riding at 7:25 a.m. Saturday in the Irvine village of Turtle Rock at Starcrest and Hillcrest with two friends, according to Irvine police Lt. Rick Handfield.
While riding downhill on a street, Marquez lost control of his Trek Madone bicycle and tumbled to the ground. Handfield said that Marquez was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Marquez was taken to a nearby hospital with a head injury and he died of his injuries today, Handfield said.
The accident is being investigated by the Irvine police. Anyone with more information is asked to call Detective Jonathan Cherney at 949-724-7024.

Neighbors reported that 'Roy' touched wheels with his friend's rear wheel and then tumbled into the curb; "His helmet did not protect his skull, the impact fractured his skull in 3 places. He never regained consciousness and was on a ventilator until listed as no brain activity. Roy had 3 young girls and his wife is a Hoag nurse. We are all so sad. This has been a terrible month for bike accidents in Irvine."
No motor vehicle involved this time; just lots of speed and following too closely...
