Unlicensed distracted driver kills cyclist.

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 9:46 a.m., Bruno and Gomez were traveling east on SR -142 (Carbon Canyon) toward Fairway Drive.

Bruno was driving a vehicle and was found to be an unlicensed driver and Gomez was riding a bicycle.

Bruno approached Gomez from the rear and collided into the back of his bicycle causing Gomez to be thrown over the vehicle. Gomez landed on the asphalt shoulder of Carbon Canyon Road and was found to be unresponsive.

Emergency personnel were immediately summoned and transported Gomez to Chino Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The collision is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Valley / Mountain Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.). In this case it appears alcohol or drugs were not a factor in this collision.
