Aaron:
I am sure you got an answer by now, but, yes, I have been riding a 50/34 with an 11-27 for lots of years. For flatland riding, I'll put on an 11-23. For really ugly climbs like Breathless Agony, I have gone to an 11-34 mountain bike rear cassette, long cage derailleur, and a compact double.
Currently, we are using the SRAM Wi-Fly gearing in the back in either an 11-30 or an 11-32 with a mid cage derailleur with either Shimano or SRAM shifters, 9 or 10 speed. Most of the riders we have converted love the lower gearing for the long, steep stuff. |
