This AP report was read on KPCC Thursday morning. I did not hear them read the line about Viola so I sent them a note:

DANA POINT, Calif. A 23-year-old San Clemente woman is due in court today after being arrested on suspicion drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of a bicyclist.
Tammy Jo Booth is suspected of hitting 33-year-old Michael Erin Thompson on a Dana Point cycling path near where two joggers were struck by a hit-and-run motorist in April.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene of the Tuesday night accident at Pacific Coast Highway and Palisades Drive.
Police say Booth was giving first aid to Thompson when officers arrived. Police say she was arrested when an officer noticed she appeared drunk.
The accident occurred near where 41-year-old Carol Daniel and 34-year-old Stacy Neria were seriously injured by a hit and run driver in April. The two are still undergoing therapy.
A 78-year-old cyclist was also struck and killed on the same stretch of road a month later.

Here is what I sent to KPCC;

Thanks for reporting this on air but you left out the very recent death of 78 year old Viola Tucker in your reading of the AP lead.
The full story might also include the time of night, was Michael using legal lights & reflectors? Legally riding on the right side of the road? Wearing a helmet? Cyclists need to hear if he was a victim or if he contributed to his demise by riding in the dark illegally...
Also - the report is false in reporting the incident was on a 'cycling path' - there is no cycling path along that stretch of PCH, there is an on-street Class 2 Bike Lane along the shoulder of the road way. |
I don't know if anyone will get deeper into the story, but I fear more people will sympathise with the car driver rather than "just another cyclist"... _________________
