The SAND CANYON Bikeway
(called the SAND CANYON Bikeway because it follows Sand Canyon Road North of the 405 Freeway, and follows the the Sand Canyon creek from Ridgline to the SAN DIEGO CREEK Bikeway.)

The Upper section starts at the SW corner of Portola Parkway & teh PORTOLA Side path and Sand Canyon as a Sidepath and is complete to just South of Trabuco. It resumes at the East end ofthe WALNUT Bikeway at the railroad tracks in Old Irvine, and continues along Sand Canyon Road on the West SB side as a side-path, cross walk across Oak Canyon, Irvine Center, Waterworks & Barranca, crosses over & connects to the SAN DIEGO CREEK Bikeway, and ends (now) at ALton. Eventually it will continue along San Canyon Road on-ramp to the NB 405, follow the North side of the 405 & cross the JEFFREY BRIDGE over the 405 to continue to the lower SAND CANYON Bikeway. Mountain bikes or adventurous road bikes can cut under the easement & follow the 2-Track path through teh weeds to the East ramp of the JEFFREY / SAND CANYON Bike Bridge

The Lower SAND CANYON Bikeway (aka UNIVERSITY Side-path) starts at the North West end of the SHADY CANYON Bikeway at the JEFFREY SAND CANYON Bike Bridge over the 405 Freeway

It continues South / West as a side-path trail along the Southbound 405 Freeway on-ramp to Michelson, Cross Walk across Michelson, continue to Ridgeline. Cross Walk across Ridgeline & turn Left 50 feet or so to where it drops into Mason Regional Park. Cement trails roll downstream eventually putting you out at Culver just South of University. Cross Walk across Culver to continue the trail through Mason Regional to Harvard, (or cross University & take the on-street Bike Lane down University). At Harvard, Cross Walk across to the North side of University and Cross Walk across to the West side of Harvard to pick up the sidewalk & connector trail down to the SAN DIEGO CREEK Bikeway aka "Mountains-To-The-Sea Trail".

From the other end; Start East from the SAN DIEGO CREEK Bikeway aka "Mountains-To-The-Sea Trail" between Campus & Michelson. The connector path takes you onto the side walk on the wrong side of University. Take it to the corner. Cross Walk across University and Cross Walk across Harvard to pick up the asphalt sidewalk along University, drop into Mason Park & find the path East through the park (or stay on the street Bike Lane). At Culver, cross the street & ride the wrong way South on the sidewalk to catch the trails through Mason Regional Park. At the far end, you pop out onto the sidewalk of Ridgeline. Go 50 feet the wrong way on the sidewalk to the corner of University. Cross Walk across Ridgeline to the side path along University. Cross walk accross Michelson. The trail follows the freeway on-ramp, then goes over the JEFFREY / SAND CANYON Bike Bridge over the 405 Freeway. It eventually will continues along the North side of the freeway East toward Sand Canyon Road and connect to the SAND CANYON Sidepath at Alton.
(You CAN bushwhack through teh field now if you have the desire...
If you stay on the South side of the freeway, not going over the JEFFREY / SAND CANYON Bike Bridge over the 405 Freeway you ar at the start of the to the North end of the SHADY CANYON Bikeway.
